Wal-Mart recently announced that it will stop selling Amazon's Kindle products, making it the second major store to stop selling Amazon's devices. Earlier in May this year, retail chain Target announced that it will no longer sell Amazon's devices.
"We have recently made the business decision to not carry Amazon tablets and eReaders beyond our existing inventory and purchase commitments. This includes all Amazon Kindle models current and recently announced," stated a memo sent to Wal-Mart store managers.
Amazon's offerings are the only devices that Wal-Mart is dropping; the company will continue to sell other gadgets as usual.
Wal-Mart has huge overall retail sales, but the company's online sales figures are not as high as Amazon's, and it has been trying to beef up its Internet business. Kindle tablet users can shop on their devices for more than just digital books, pushing Amazon into heightened competition with retail stores like Wal-Mart and Target.
"The point of a Kindle from Amazon's view is to get a machine into the hands of someone who can then use it to order from Amazon. And not just books or movies either: one can buy pretty much anything through the site these days. And if you're using it to buy your books and your movies then you are more likely to purchase the other requirements of life through it as well," reports Reuters.
