Facebook has now launched a new app for the Gear VR headset called Facebook 360, which basically collates all of the 360-degree photos and VR videos being shared on its social media platform. The app itself has long been requested by Gear VR headset owners, seeing as that it does take quite a lot of time to find good quality videos within the Oculus video store and the standard Facebook platform.

There is currently a ton of VR videos and 360-degree photos being shared on Facebook each day, and most of it are personal shots made by regular users. The biggest problem, however, is finding the right content from the pages that are being followed and from select users. The new Facebook 360 app aims to solve that issue by letting users see and access all of the VR content right in one application.

Users of the new Facebook 360 app simply need to log in with their Facebook account to access all of the content from the pages and people they follow. The app also displays some of the most popular content that is trending on any particular day. According to Facebook, via Engadget, the platform apparently has more than 1 million VR videos and 25 million 360-degree photos to date.

The Facebook 360 app is meant to increase the viewership of those VR content by giving Gear VR users a simple way of accessing them. The app is also aimed at encouraging media organization and content creators to make more videos and take more photos seeing as that there is now a proper platform to share them in. This is also a big deal for both Samsung, which is betting on VR as being the next step in media distribution.

The Facebook 360 app is being offered for free at the Oculus Store. A Gear VR headset and a compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone is, of course, required to access the new app.
