Much to the chagrin of tech enthusiasts who have restlessly been waiting to catch a glimpse of Microsoft Surface Pro 5, it looks like the lauded 2-in-1 hybrid laptop will not hit the store shelves in near future.

The Redmond-based tech giant did not even mention the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 during the recently concluded MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2017 in Barcelona, thus failing to sweep the huge Surface fanbase off its feet. But there's hearsay that the device could arrive sooner rather than later.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Release Date

Microsoft is slated to release the next massive Windows 10 update known as the Creators Update sometime in April. PC Advisor suggests that the company could be waiting for the said update to roll out before it takes the wraps off the highly anticipated Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

Moreover, rumors running rampant online indicate that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will boast a slew of contemporary Surface hardware. The Surface Pro 4 debuted back in Oct. 2015, and tech pundits at the time believed its successor would be launched a year later, but that wasn't the case.

While there's no official word on whether or not the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be unveiled even this year, the fact that Microsoft announced a reduction in cost for the current generation Surface Pro fuelled speculations among tech buffs. Multiple sources have taken this as a sign that Microsoft is indeed gearing up to launch the Surface Pro 5.

Another leak that indicated the Taiwanese electronics manufacturing company, Pegatron has been roped in for the next Surface device, added more fuel to the already burning rumors about the Microsoft Surface Pro 5'a looming launch. Pegatron was also the company behind the Surface Studio.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Specifications & Features

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will feature 4K display along with an upgraded stylus, which reportedly will charge wirelessly thanks to its rechargeable battery. There's also hearsay that the device will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 635 processor; however, this speculation does not coincide with previous reports that suggested the Surface Pro 5 will come equipped with Intel's Kaby Lake chip.

With the launch of the Surface Pro 5, Microsoft is expected to address users' concerns over the shortcomings of the Surface Pro 4, according to TechRadar. The website rates the Surface Pro 4 for 5 hours and 15 minutes (video playback), which is well below the company's promised 9 hours of video playback. At least 7 hours of battery life should be ideal from its successor. If this comes to fruition, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be closer in line with Apple's MacBook Air and the iPad Pro.

Meanwhile, there's a possibility that Microsoft could be deliberately keeping details about the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 under wraps in order to keep the hype surrounding its new tablet alive. Stay tuned in here for more news and updates regarding the Surface Pro 5's release date, specs and other details.
