In the previous chapter of the popular manga "Fairy Tail," Gray made a tough decision by sacrificing his life just to save the "Fairy Tail" Guild and Natsu from harm following Zeref's revelation that he wanted to acquire Mavi's power. The Iced Shield spell was used by Gray, which immobilizes the opponent but the huge catch is that it destroys the person who casts the spell.

"Fairy Tail" chapter 523 continues with the battles that started in chapter 521 and have been heightened in chapter 522. Zeref is naturally shocked and asks Gray where he discovered the spell and the latter indicated that the addition of lost attributes has considerably boosted the strength and effectiveness of the magic.

Reports say that apart from eradicating the person who uses the spell, it also wipes out the users' existence in the world, which means that if the usage of the spell would be a success, it will destroy every memory of Gray from everyone's minds and hearts that he has mingled with. Gray also explained that the damaging power of the spell is necessary to keep his guildmates from ‘feeling sorry and sad'.

The name of the spell entails a restriction to Zeref's movements totally, which will lock him in an icy prison although it's not going to kill him, according to a report. It is worthy to note that in the previous chapter, Gray said that he knows that killing Zeref would mean killing Natsu too. Zeref then says that the icy prison doesn't last forever since the ice will eventually melt down, which Gray responds that he knows the limitations of the spell but it will grant peace to the land and means victory to the "Fairy Tail" Guild.

When Gray feels the damaging power of the Iced Shield spell, he hears Natsu asking him to stop it but he insists on proceeding as there is no other way of getting rid of Zeref and ensures that E.N.D Natsu lives. Natsu then knocks him on the ground, which breaks the flow of the spell allowing Zeref to destroy the icy prison that's been partially generated.

Meanwhile, "Fairy Tail" chapter 524 is titled ‘Black Future'. It follows Ancologia's continued threat to all members of the Guild.
