The latest "Pokemon Go" expansion has recently updated the Pokedex. Get to know the best Johto Pokemon for attacking and defending gyms.

Best Johto Pokemon for Attacking Gym

Fan-favorites Alakazam and Dragonite still top the attacking charts with 271 and 263 attacks, respectively. With the latest "Pokemon Go" Gen 2 update, the Pokemon Espeon is one of the strongest attackers you can acquire. Espeon, however, is fragile just like all other attack-based Eevee evolutions. Aside from Espeon, Scizor, the Bug/Steel-type evolution of Gen 1's Scyther, is one of the best attackers with an attack power of 236.

In addition, "Pokemon Go" Gen 2's Tyranitar is also a great attacker, with an attack power of 253. This Pokemon has an incredibly high max CP at 3670, thrashing out Gen 1's Dragonite by almost 100 points. The Pokemon Ho-oh is an offensive powerhouse with a massive 263-attack power.

Best Johto Pokemon for Defending Gym

There are tons of new great defenders introduced with the recent "Pokemon Go" Gen 2 update. Onix's evolved form, Steelix, is an ideal frontrunner for defending gyms. This Pokemon has 333-defense power. According to Silph Road, the water/flying-type manta ray Pokémon, Mantine is also a good choice for defense. It has a defense stat of 260, and a max CP of 2,032. Skarmory, the steel/flying-type Pokemon has a similar defense stat as Mantine, which makes it a good Pokemon for defense as well.

Another "Pokemon Go' Gen 2 Pokemon that has an outstanding stat is the elephantine Donphan. It has an equal attack and defense at 214. Although Donphan does not have as much defendse power like an Umbreon or a Forretress, it will can put the damage on enemy Pokémon more easily than either of those, given its higher attack. Donphan is ideal if you are looking for a more balanced workhorse Pokémon, says MIC.
