Nokia's Windows Phone push seems to be going as planned. The company on Wednesday announced that 7 million Windows Phone Lumia devices have been shipped in 54 different countries and 130 different carriers. However, this is a modest number compared the amount of devices Android and iPhone handsets been sold in the last quarter alone.

The Finnish giant went on to state that 4 million of the 7 million phones were shipped in the last quarter alone, which shows an increase in demand for Nokia Lumia devices around the world. However, Nokia needs to better these numbers with its Windows Phone 8 devices if it wants to succeed in an increasingly competitive environment.

With the announcement of the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Lumia 820 today, the company could potentially attract more users to the Windows Phone ecosystem, which would ultimately help Nokia in its bid to stay relevant in the mobile space. If it continues to grow steadily with Windows Phone, the company could break even in 2013 and be on track to regain its number one spot ahead in the mobile phone market.
