At the IFA conference in Berlin last week, HTC announced that its Desire X smartphone, the third entry in the Desire range, will launch in late September at UK phone retailer Carphone Warehouse. The device will go on sale for around £180, with no word on a U.S price.

The device uses a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8225 processor, a 4-inch 800x480 display, a five-megapixel rear-facing camera, 4GB of internal storage, HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, and a 1650mAh battery. It seems to be pitched as a low- to mid-range device compared to the once high-end HTC Desire and Desire HD.

The HTC Desire X runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, not 4.1 Jelly Bean; the addition of Sense 4.0, HTC's custom user interface, may have delayed a Jelly Bean update.

Along with Carphone warehouse selling the device this month, UK phone retailer Phones 4U exclusively stocks the white version. Pricing details have not been confirmed, though The INQUIRER reported that the phone will be approximately £20 a month on a two-year contract; it seems like an accessible phone for the budget smartphone user. If consumers buy from Phones 4U, a pair of Beats headphones is included on contracts from £26 a month.

Carphone Warehouse also confirmed that it will sell the Sony Xperia T from Sept. 5, with no word on pricing.

If consumers are looking for phones on similar deals, then 2011's Samsung Galaxy S2 is available from £27 on a two-year contract.

The Nokia Lumia 900 is available for $49 on AT&T in the U.S. and, for users not confined to strict budgets, Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone 5 in just a week.
