"Splatoon 2" will exclusively launch on Nintendo Switch. Here is what we know so far about the upcoming game's release date, gameplay and trailer, among others.

Latest News

Earlier in February, Nintendo announced that "Splatoon 2" would launch a Global Test Fire Event between March 24 and 26. Nintendo said that those who buy the Nintendo Switch will get access to the new video game system, as well as participate in a special "Splatoon 2" preview. In addition, owners with Internet access can download a demo version of the "Splatoon 2" game, which will allow them to fight against opponents around the world in the "Splatoon 2" Global Testfire event.

Gameplay

According to Broken Joystick, "Splatoon 2" will feature a new story campaign that will take place two years after the first installment. Reportedly, it will deal with the conflict between the squid and octopi people and offer the same brand of collectible-based storytelling.

Game Mode and Features

Hisashi Nogami confirmed a new way for players to follow the action when "Splatoon 2" releases later in the year. A mode will provide players with a unique understanding about squid behaviors and a strategy called Private Battle Spectator View. This improvement will enable up to two non-players to participate in a Private Battle as camera operators and observe all the action from multiple angles.

Another new feature called LAN Play will be available to "Splatoon 2." This feature will allow up to 10 docked systems, eight players and two spectators, to connect through wired LAN. This new feature will enable players to build local Private Battle tournaments without the need of an internet connection.

Trailer

Nintendo has now confirmed that the Splatoon video shown during the Nintendo Switch's reveal trailer is that of “Splatoon 2.” It was revealed that "Splatoon 2" would be playable through all three of the Switch's console options. The trailer even indicated that multiple consoles will be able to interact wirelessly with local multiplayer parties.

Release Date

"Splatoon 2" is initially slated to release in the Summer of 2017. No further details have been announced yet about a specific release date. This upcoming third-person shooter video game developed and published by Nintendo will be available for the Nintendo Switch.
