Back in November 2015, Nordic Games discussed plans for a third installment following "Darksiders 2: Deathinitive Edition." Base.com, an online retail store, was previously accepting pre-orders for "Darksiders 3" at £50 (about $62) a copy. The website listed December 31, 2016 as the release date. We're halfway through Q1 of 2017, and there has yet to be an official update regarding "Darksides 3." We've gathered everything we know so far.

Nordic Games Plans for 'Darksiders 3'

According to Game Spot, the executive producer for Nordic Games revealed that the high-definition re-release of "Darksiders 2" was "just the start." He reported that they've been looking into a third iteration of "Darksiders" ever since their acquisition of the franchise, and the remastered edition was "just a way to get some spotlight" on said franchise once more.

"Darksiders" originally belonged to THQ, but was transferred over to Nordic Games once the company filed for bankruptcy. Their stance on the remastered re-release of "Darksiders 2" is that it puts them in a better starting position for "Darksiders 3."

'Darksiders 3' Missed December 2016 Release?

As early as July 2016, rumors and speculations for the "Darksiders 3" release were already rampant. Perhaps the biggest supposed "leak" came in the form of an online retail store. Base.com was supposedly accepting pre-orders for the game, and listed December 31, 2016 as the release date. According to Game N Guide, Nordic Games was silent on the matter. Following the link now reveals that the item has been removed.

However, Game N Guide later suggests a 2017 release date for "Darksiders 3." Again, Nordic Games remains silent on the matter. Almost four years after the last release in the "Darksiders" franchise, fans are wondering if the third installment is, indeed, coming out.

As it stands now, with barely any news from the game producer, it's looking like a 2017 release might have been too optimistic for "Darksiders 3." There have been plenty of fake, fan-made teaser trailers to grace YouTube ever since the announcement, but nothing in terms of official gameplay or cinematics has been released. Without confirmation, players will have to make do with speculation for now.
