"Divergent" actress Shailene Woodley has officially confirmed that she will not take part in the final installment of the movie. The fourth part of the film called "Ascendant" is being planned to be a "Divergent" TV series rather than a movie sequel. For this reason, even Theo James will no longer reprise his role in the franchise, reportedly.
"I'm not going to be on the television show," Woodley confirmed with Vanity Fair when asked whether she will be part of the "Divergent" TV series. Popularly known as Tris Prior in the movie, the actress is apparently a huge loss for the franchise. However, fans will still get to see their favorite star as Woodley takes on a role of a single mother in a new series called Big Little Lies.
"Divergent" TV series didn't just lose one major character, however. Tris' on-screen lover, Four or Tobias Eaton, who is portrayed by James also hinted that he will not join the show. A report by Too Fab revealed that the actor feels sorry that they cannot finish the film.
He also believes that the rest of the characters from the original title would probably leave their roles too. James, however, expressed his gratitude to those who supported the movie. Both Woodley and James are known to have gained more popularity following their leading roles in the hit franchise.
For the uninitiated, "Ascendant" is the fourth and final sequel of the popular movie "Divergent." However, after the sudden decline in ratings of the third installment "Allegiant," the team behind the film purportedly decided to take the franchise into a TV movie. The news was not received well by fans and even the cast of the movie itself, apparently.
"Divergent" TV series, however, is still in limbo. There are no announcements nor confirmation if the show will actually push through. In the meantime, enjoy a clip with Tris and Four from the movie below.
