Jamie Lynn Spears' daughter and niece of singer Britney Spears, Maddie, is in critical condition following a freaked ATV accident on Feb. 5 in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. Her daughter was driving the all-terrain vehicle when she swerved and went straight to the nearby pond.
Maddie's mom Jamie and stepfather Jamie Watson were nearby, but they can only watch in horror as she flipped into the pond with the ATV. The parents tried to save her like mad but they failed to free her from the vehicle due to the safety belt, USA Today reported.
A couple of minutes later, the paramedics arrived and rescued the eight-year-old girl. She was airlifted to New Orleans hospital and doctors said Maddie is stable but in critical condition.
Based on initial investigation led by Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards, the incident took place on Sunday around 3 p.m. Maddie was driving the Polaris ATV when went off course to avoid a drainage ditch. The vehicle headed to the water and immediately went under.
The girl was trapped and could not be taken out of the ATV because of the seat belt and protective netting. The police stated that contrary to initial reports, the accident did not happen during a hunting trip but it was just another ordinary day around the Spear's family property.
Looking at the accident, Jamie Lynn Spears' daughter should have not been driving an ATV. In fact, as pointed out by TMZ, part of the vehicle's instruction manual reads: "Never allow a child under age 10 to operate or ride as a passenger in this vehicle. Use only if the parent determine that your child has the ability and maturity to operate safely."
Maddie is not even close to being 10 because she is only eight. Plus, the publication discovered that the Polaris ATV has issues even before and it has something to do with the vehicle rolling over. Moreover, Jamie Lynn Spear's daughter drove the RZR type which has legal cases due to many people being injured riding it.
At any rate, Maddie is Britney Spears' niece and she immediately flew to her family's home upon learning about the situation. On Feb. 7, she asked her fans and friends for support via Twitter. "Need all the wishes and prayers for my niece," she tweeted.
