"Star Wars: Episode VIII-The Last Jedi" has been revealed as the official title of the upcoming Star Wars sequel. Along with the title, the logo was also unveiled and it features simple fonts in red. For the characters, mothing much was said about it so fans are wondering if Anakin Skywalker is returning for the eight episode of the movie.
For the director for "Star Wars: Episode VIII-The Last Jedi," Rian Johnson was assigned to take the helm. He was also tasked to be the movie's writer and this made film critics to assume that the eight film in the saga will be darker.
Johnson's previous films do not really have happy endings so he was known for producing somber style films. However, he aims to make his new film different from the genre he was known for.
In fact, in an interview, he shared that he wants to make "Star Wars: Episode VIII-The Last Jedi" an enjoyable flick for everyone. "I want it to be a blast and to be funny and to be a ride the way The Force Awakens and the original Star Wars movies were," USA Today quoted Johnson as saying.
What to Expect
It seems that fans will get to see deeper backstory of each character because Johnson said that he wants to "know more about each of them." But it will not just be plain backstory, something more interesting are going to be revealed.
Moreover, since the second installment in the Star Wars trilogy seems to have given the villains the upper so they end up almost victorious, the final and third installment "Star Wars: Episode VIII-The Last Jedi" is expected to show the heroes gaining back their lead and finally emerging on top.
Is Anakin Skywalker Returning?
Film experts think that he should. This is because, along with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda, Anakin Skywalker have long been the main driving force for the apparitions in the film series, thus the trilogy cannot end without their appearance.
If he will indeed return, Hayden Christensen who replaced the original actor as the Force Ghost of Anakin Skywalker will likely be back to reprise his role in "Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi."
Release Date
On Jan. 24, Star Wars confirmed via Twitter that the eight installment is coming to theaters 10 months from now. "It's official. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is the next chapter of the Skywalker saga. This December," the tweet reads.
