Android 8 is likely to be released this year as Google has a tradition of launching updates every year. The latest was Android Nougat and this was introduced in August 2016. Now, as the launch of the new Android operating system, what it will be called is being guessed at by techies.

There are speculations that Android 8 could be named with something that begins with the letter ‘O.' On the other hand the number used in the update is just plainly done in chronological sequence. Thus, this time, the numerical denomination of the next OS is likely to be Android 8 or Android 8.0.

For the name of the sweets or candy, Google already had Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow and Nougat for names of the previous Android OS. So, what is next?

There are many items that begins with the letter ‘O,' but according to PC Advisor, the most possible name to be picked by Google is Android 8 Oreo, . Yes, it is those famous chocolate with cream biscuits.

If this will push through and Google will indeed go for Oreo, it will strike a partnership with Oreo's manufacturing company which is Mondelez. Previously, it signed an agreement with Nestle for its official use of the Android KitKat.

At any rate, Android Central gathered the name suggestions for Android 8 and some that came up include Orange, Oatmeal Cookie, Oatcake and Orellete. Despite these rumors, Google has not released any update about what its next OS' name will be.
