Conor McGregor gets another challenger coming from a former UFC champion. Anderson Silva is ready to take him on.
Talks of fights between boxing legends has trended over the past months. Both Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao are willing to fight McGregor. However, a match between the former pound-for-pound UFC fighter might draw better attention.
According to MMA Junkie, "The Spider" has been very vocal about fighting McGregor. Silva holds a record of 33 wins and 8 losses in his MMA career, excluding a 16-4 win/loss card from the UFC. The former middleweight champion has competed in higher weight classes before.
The fight would have a better chance of making through the negotiations. Anderson Silva is part of UFC, while Mayweather and Pacquiao are professional boxers. This might make the negotiations difficult for each of the fighter's promoters.
"The Spider" is currently scheduled to fight Derek Brunson in UFC 208 main event. He has expressed his desire to fight the trash-talking Irishman after his fight. He stated that he holds no ill will towards the champ, but would want to make the fight happen out of respect. Silva holds high regard for McGregor's fighting style.
During his prime, Silva had a seven-year title reign as the 185-pound division champ. He is considered as one of the greatest strikers in UFC history.
Despite Silva's enthusiasm about the fight, McGregor seems to go south on the possibility. McGregor has been resting after winning the 155-pound title against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205.
He stated that he's willing to fight anyone at any time as long as it meets his standard compensation. McGregor recently told an interviewer that Silva has been mentioning his name. The brash-talking Irishman had a reserve of expletives against Silva.
Currently, McGregor is aggressively pushing a fight against Floyd Mayweather Junior. Negotiations are still underway and both camps have still not settled on a final agreement. Anderson Silva's phone interview from the MMA Talk can be viewed below.
