Smartphone lovers are waiting with bated breath for Samsung to unveil its long-rumored Galaxy S8 and the successor to the now defunct Galaxy Note 7. While multiple sources have indicated that the release dates for the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 are just around the corner, Samsung has not ceased rolling out new devices in its Galaxy range.
In line with this, the South Korean handset maker has launched a new A5 smartphone packed with flagship features at a budget-friendly price. Let us take a look what the 2017 variant of the Galaxy A5 has to offer in terms of specs, features, design and more.
Samsung's Galaxy A5 is a mid-ranger smartphone that brings in a slew of premium features to the budget conscious consumers. The company cited the hike in the number of consumers looking to get their hands on a quality phone without burning a hole in their pocket for coming out with the Galaxy A5 smartphone. Besides, the mid-range market is growing very quickly, Express reported.
Design
The Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 bears a striking resemblance to the Galaxy S7. The device is housed in a metal chassis and boasts metal buttons. The Galaxy A5 2017 is covered both at the front and back with an unmentioned corning gorilla glass. The device weighs in at 157 grams and has dimensions of 5.75 x 2.81 x 0.31 inches. Moreover, it comes with an IP68 water and dust resistance feature, meaning, the device can be dunked in water for 15-30 minutes.
Display
The Galaxy A5 2017 sports a 5.2-inch super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution. It also boasts an always-on feature.
Platform
Probably the only shortcoming of the Galaxy A5 2017 is that it will be running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, not Nougat. However, it will be powered by an Exynos 7880 chip which is powerful enough to ensure smooth operation of functions such as accessing and using apps. Furthermore, the Galaxy A5 does not overheat even after 30 minutes of gaming.
Memory
Packed with 32GB of internal memory, the Galaxy A5 features 3GB of RAM. The device's memory can be further expanded up to 256GB.
Camera
In the photography front, the Galaxy A5 sports a 16MP camera equipped with an aperture of f/1.9. However, it doesn't come with an optical image stabilization and the device is not capable of recording 4K videos as well.
The new Galaxy A5 features a 16MP front shooter with an aperture of f/1.9, but it lacks an autofocus feature, according to the Galaxy A5 description on Samsung's official website.
Battery
The Galaxy A5 packs a robust 3000 mAh battery, which can last about 2 days with moderate use; this translates into six hours of screen-on time. The phone is capable of charging from zero to full within just one hour and 15 minutes, thanks to the device's stock charger.
