After being absent for three episodes from the previous season in "Criminal Minds", the genius doctor of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) of FBI is finally making a comeback. Taking the challenge of watching over his mother Diana Reid (Jane Lynch), Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) is said to be roaming around ‘dangerous territory.
Spencer has been in Houston with his mother and has been obviously absent from the last few episodes, which only focused on the cases that they needed to solve instead of the team members. Spencer's mother Diana is suffering from Alzheimer's disease and has been obsessed with it as to how he can have it cured to save her.
"Criminal Minds: Surface Tension" episode didn't just showcase the UnSub (Unknown Subject) victimizing innocent and good people but also about Spencer struggling with Diana being sick. He did not tell the caregiver about the medication that his mother is taking and later in the episode, he told Diana that the certain medication is irreplaceable.
He has been obsessed to cure Diana's Alzheimer's disease to the extent that he gives her experimental medication something that could bring him in trouble. At the end of the "Criminal Minds: Surface Tension" episode, Jj (AJ Cook) told Rossi (Joe Mantegna) that Spencer's situation is not good leading to speculations that Spencer could be ‘going off the deep end' and might suffer serious consequences in the next episodes.
According to TV Line, "Criminal Minds" Season 12 episodes would be more serialized compared to the episodes in the past. Showrunner Erica Messer also said during an interview that the return of a serial killer will intensify fans and a revelation will also be exposed from one of the characters' personal history and can affect his or her performance in the BAU.
"Criminal Minds" Season 12 airs every Wednesday at 9 PM on CBS. Stay tuned.
