In 2015, it was announced that "Mr. Mercedes," a book writer Stephen King claims as "his first hard-boiled detective book," will be turned into a limited television series. Despite being put on the back-burner, it looks like production for the show is now back on track. Several actors have also been added to the "Mr. Mercedes" cast.
AT&T Audience Network's "Mr. Mercedes" will be a 10-episode show produced by Sonar Entertainment, per Deadline. Production has already begun in Charleston, South Carolina, and the series is set for a fall release.
Brendan Gleeson (the "Harry Potter" film franchise, "Edge of Tomorrow") will portray Detective Bill Hodges, and Harry Treadaway ("The City of Ember," "The Lone Ranger") will play Brady Hartsfield. Other cast members include Jharrel Jerome ("Moonlight," "Wheels") as Jerome Robinson, Scott Lawrence ("Suits," "Rectify") as Detective Peter Dixon, Robert Stanton ("Cosby," "Washington Square") as Anthony "Robi" Frobisher.
Ann Cusack (" A League of Their Own," "Accepted") portrays Olivia Trelawney, Mary-Louise Parker ("Weeds," "The West Wing") plays Janey Patterson and Holland Taylor ("The Truman Show," "Two and a Half Men") as Ida Silver. Previously announced cast members include Kelly Lynch ("Drugstore Cowboy") as Deborah Hartsfield, Justine Lupe ("Magic City" as Holly Gibney, and Breeda Wool ("The Faith Diaries") as Lou Linklatter.
Like the book it is based on, "Mr. Mercedes" will feature "demented killer Hartsfield, who taunts retired police detective Hodges with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to undertake a private, and potentially felonious, crusade to bring the killer to justice before he is able to strike again."
David E. Kelley ("L.A. Law," "Picket Fences") will pen the TV show adaptation, and Jack Bender ("Lost," "The Sopranos") will be directing. Kelley and Bender will also act as executive producers for the "Mr. Mercedes" TV series along with Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey from Temple Hill Entertainment.
In a previous article by The Hollywood Reporter, it was revealed that Treadaway will replace Anton Yelchin as Hartsfield in "Mr. Mercedes" TV series. In 2016, Yelchin died in what was called a "freak accident" when he was crushed to death by his Jeep Grand Cherokee outside his own home.
