The Winchester brothers are in a tough spot again. In the mid-season finale, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) were arrested by the federal government for attempting to kill the President, who was possessed by Lucifer. In the winter premiere, the brothers find themselves in a new kind of hell: a high-security government prison in the middle of nowhere.
A New Kind Of Hell
"They're kind of in a very real version of hell in some ways," Executive Producer Andrew Dabb informs Entertainment Weekly about the Winchester brothers' latest stay in prison. He adds that is more grave than their previous encounters with the law because "they're mainly being treated as terrorists. Where there are no visitors, no cafeteria. It's all solitary, all the time."
The anti-terrorism specialist reckons isolating Dean and Sam from each other and the outside world will get them to talk in time. But, these guys have been to hell, literally, and have gotten out of a lot of situations. Silence doesn't scare them. But later on, Dean says the six-week experience was worse than hell.
Castiel's Emotional Speech
To escape imprisonment, the boys made a deadly cost of a deal with Billie the reaper, who killed and resurrected them. Now, she gets to claim a Winchester's life for good. Mary volunteers herself. Just as she's about to shoot herself, Cas kills Billie and launches into a moving speech: "This sad, doomed little world, it needs you. It needs every last Winchester it can get. I will not let you die. I won't let any of you die. I won't let you sacrifice yourselves. You mean too much to me, to everything," shares TV Line.
The course of Sam and Dean's absence forms a power vacuum, which the British Men of Letters are more than happy to fill. When the Winchester boys come back after this period of time, they're walking into a different world. It hasn't turned 180, but it's not like when they left it.
