Since the introduction of AirPods, users have flocked to Apple stores to get a glimpse of the gadget. Some reviews reveal that it's worth the wait and money. However, losing one or the pair altogether would mean a disaster. Being small and untethered increases the risk of losing the premier wireless earphones. The company has found a solution asides from charging $69 for a replacement to a lost AirPod.
According to Forbes, iOS 10.3 will integrate a solution in finding a lost AirPod. This solution might not be the best option since Bluetooth devices have a short battery life, but the company is looking for other ways to address the issue. For now here is how it works after buying one from Amazon or Best Buy.
A lost AirPod does not need to be in close proximity for an owner to find it. However, it does need to be in Bluetooth range of an Apple device. The device should be connected to the owner's iCloud account.
If an owner is in the area where the wireless headphones were lost, tapping "Play Sound" in the Find My iPhone app would make the AirPods chirp.
In cases where the battery of the wireless earphones is depleted, the Find My AirPods option will pinpoint the last location of the wireless earphones. It uses the last Bluetooth ping received by an Apple device before the premier in-ear gadget loses its power.
One of the coolest features of the AirPods allows owners the option to mute the right or left pod. This would deactivate the device when it's lost and found by another user.
If someone has borrowed the earphones and if that's why they are missing, the pods will automatically increase the volume to urge the borrower to return the AirPods. The feature will be available for the upcoming iOS 10.3 update.
The best tip to avoid losing the AirPods is to always bring the case with you. It's also advised that after using the wireless earphones, it's best that you put them back in the case. Losing the pods will be a headache since they have limited availability and the price costs you around $200 and replacing a lost pod is worth $69.
