Samsung Galaxy S8 is speculated to sport its own personal assistant dubbed as Bixby. The new mobile device assistant is a successor to S Voice and is believed to be more powerful and functional than Google's Alexa, Apple's Siri and Microsoft's Cortana. Interestingly, Bixby is said to be capable of utilizing the device's camera to do visual searches and recognize characters.

Though the Seoul-based tech giant has not announced details of the new smartphone assistant, speculations surfaced that the technology in Bixby is derived from another AI called Viv. It can be recalled that Samsung has acquired the startup Viv Labs in October 2016. And now, the company is taking advantage of the popularity Viv made because of its tie-ins with other third-party software and services.

That said, Bixby is expected to be more competitive than other personal assistants available today, Android Headlines reported. It remains to be seen whether it will bring tight competition with Alexa, Siri and Cortana. But based on recent reports, Bixby has a unique function that allows users to make use of the camera to perform deeper level of image searches and character recognition.

Apart from Bixby, reports surrounding Samsung Galaxy S8 specs claimed that the upcoming flagship device will still embed an iris scanning biometric technology similar to Samsung Galaxy Note 7, The Guardian reported. The iris scanner lets owners unlock the smartphone with the use of their eyes. Additionally, users can also utilize the iris scanning technology to authenticate purchases.

Samsung Galaxy S8 will also implement the same duo-pixel camera that was launched on Samsung Galaxy S7 in 2016. The camera is said to produce improved image quality with its low-light performance and speed. Sources also claimed that it might contain features similar to Google Goggles too.
