Netflix has confirmed that "House of Cards" season 5 will premiere on May 30, 2017 as a teaser video was released right after Donald Trump's inauguration according to Trusted Reviews.
In the teaser video, it shows an upside down American Flag as the camera zooms out while children's voices are heard in the background as they recite the Pledge of Allegiance. The dark tone of the video suggests that the upcoming season will have a dark tone as well as President Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, and his wife Claire, played by Robin Wright, declared an all-out war against terrorism in season four according to Tripped Media.
This has an ironic similarity with Donald Trump as he also shared his priority for the strengthening of the US military. The video not only suggests dark times in the TV series, but it also depicts dark times ahead for the nation now that Donald Trump is officially the President.
The show might be a commentary on what a President Trump may bring to the nation, which is something that Trump's critics have feared ever since the Presidential campaigns began.
In addition, new characters are reportedly being added to the TV show as Scott Campbell and Patricia Clarkson will be joining the cast. Also, Frank Pugliese and Melissa James Gibson will be taking over the show.
"House of Cards" is a political drama TV series that premiered on Feb. 1, 2013 on Netflix. The show was well received by critics and already has 33 Emmy nominations including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actor and Outstanding Lead Actress to name a few.
Season five premieres on May 30, 2017 on Netflix.
