Fans of the hit political drama "House of Cards" were eager to find out when the show would return for its fifth season. Now, it has been revealed that Kevin Spacey, who portrays Frank Underwood, will return with the rest of the show's cast in May.

According to The Verge, Netflix has timed its announcement of the show's Season 5 release date with Donald Trump's inauguration as the 45th President of the United States. The official "House of Cards" Twitter account released a short video of an upside down American flag, "the official sign of distress," as the voices of young children recite the Pledge of Allegiance of the United States.

Near the end of the video, the date May 30, 2017 is shown, announcing the official return of Frank Underwood for Season 5. The upcoming season of "House of Cards" will pick up where Season 4 left off after Frank announced that Claire (portrayed by Robin Wright), his wife, will be "his running mate for the upcoming election."

It is possible that the show will choose to reflect the "tumultuous 2016 election" in Season 5. Entertainment Weekly posited that in the upcoming season, "House of Cards" could show Frank following through on his promise to "bring the terror." Viewers will remember that in Season 4 of "House of Cards," Frank ominously announced that "We make the terror."

"House of Card's" May 30 release date is a couple of months late compared to the previous release schedule for the series. Seasons 1 to 3 aired in February, and Season 4 aired in March. "House of Cards" Season 5 will be the first time to air without its former showrunner Beau Willimon.

The Independent added that other returning cast members include Michael Kelly (Doug Stamper), Paul Sparks (Thomas Yates), and Neve Campbell (LeAnn Harvey). However, Mahershaler Ali has revealed that he won't be reprising his role as Remy Danton in "House of Cards Season 5."
