Nintendo is remaining coy on when launch titles will arrive for Wii U, probably alongside the console's launch. A photo taken of an in-store GameStop poster shows Wii U games arriving around launch, despite previous conflicting information.
Among the games on the list are NBA 2K13. Mass Effect 3, Lego City: Undercover, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, Game & Wario, Pikmin 3, Project P-100, Aliens: Colonial Marines, and Assassin's Creed 3 also feature on the list.
The full list is available courtesy Zelda Informer and reveals interesting information, assuming that the list proves accurate. First, there will be 7 multi-platform titles. Therefore, it's going to be interesting to see how the titles compare to Xbox 360/PlayStation 3/PC versions. It'll be an early indicator of the power of Wii U.
Second, Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines is listed for launch despite the TBA date on the poster. Publisher Sega confirmed a February 12, 2013, release date earlier in the quarter. This date suggests "launch" games won't arrive on the day of Wii U's release. Nintendo has said as much, revealing "launch" titles will debut three months post release. Assuming Wii U launches in November, the date for releases could be February 2013.
Third, it seems Nintendo is staggering its own games throughout the "launch window". Pikmin 3, Game & Wario, Project P-100, and Wii Fit U are set for the window. Aside from P-100, the games are first-party releases from Nintendo. Considering the anticipation among Pikmin fans for Pikmin 3, it's strange that the title may not be available at launch.
Fourth, Rayman Legends, Colonial Marines, and the titles listed for the launch window aside, "holiday" is the release date for the remaining games. Obviously this window refers to the Q3 2012 period, particularly November/December, and 20 titles could be releasing during the holiday period if the list is true. It includes New Super Mario Bros. U, the harder Razor's Edge, and Assassin's Creed 3. The latter is releasing October and Ubisoft has previously said Wii U's version will be finished alongside Xbox 360 and PS3 counterparts.
At least Nintendo will be offering a solid number of releases during or around launch. Thirty titles is a lot to choose from.
