Earlier news about a “Days of Our Lives” cancellation have been clearly exaggerated. Reports about the famous soap opera getting shut down first came out after Megyn Kelly was hired by NBC.

The long-time FOX News anchor was recently signed by NBC earlier this month. According to PEOPLE, Kelly was given a daytime news program - which will end up eating up the time slot saved for “Days of Our Lives.”

An anonymous source revealed that “Days of Our Lives” will no longer be on air by 2018. “Basically, we have heard that there will not be a ‘Days’ [of Our Lives] in 2018,” the source specifically said.

“Days of Our Lives” is one of the longest running soap operas in the world - having aired every week day since November 8, 1965. The source said that the show has always been renewed on an annual basis. However, this time around, its current contract reflects only up to the end of 2017. This further sparks speculations that “Days of Our Lives” will be, indeed, cancelled by the end of this year.

However, thankfully for “Days of Our Lives” fans, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt confirmed that the fate of the show has not been settled just yet and that they will be arriving at a decision in “another couple months.” “I do not think it is over yet,” Greenblatt told TV Line at this year’s Television Critics Association winter press tour.

Regarding Kelly, Greenblatt said that it s “still too early to know where she is going to be in daytime.” “We have a lot of news hours in daytime. So, there is some flexibility. Everybody assumed that she would kill that show. That is a bad assumption,” he added.

The reported contract expiry for “Days of Our Lives” could either mean the show will be renewed, or it will be axed. For the latter, Greenblatt has promised that they will give the show’s fans plenty of notice if they do decide to pull the plug. “We would try to be respectful,” he continued.
