The daytime TV is nothing less than a battlefield and war ground: everyone is vying and competing to get the premium time slots and air time. Only recently, news has surfaced that "Days of Our Lives" could promptly be ousted by a daytime talk show or news series slated to feature Megyn Kelly. To remind the readers, Megyn is a former Fox News host.
The daytime programming of TV channels in U.S. is bifurcated into different sections including daytime dramas, news and talk programs and finally, the syndicated shows. As such the long running show "Days of Our Lives" may face difficult times ahead and be in deep trouble thanks to this development. As reported, the people who are on board the soap opera, that has been airing for more than 50 years now, state that there might not be new episodes after 2018.
The show may be complete scrapped by the new show hosted by Kelly. "Days of Our Lives" has been renewed in the past constantly only on a season by season basis. Will this soap opera face the same music as its counterparts "One Life to Live" and "All My Children"? It is ironic, however, that these shows were canned to make way of a talk show, hosted by Katie Couric which was also cancelled.
Will the fans and followers, dedicated as they are, be seeing the same thing happen to their favourite show "Days of Our Lives"? Maybe if the voices are united and channeled through social media, something may be done about this abrupt development. This show is one of the longest running television programs in the world and has been airing every weekday since November 8, 1965. The current contract may only carry the show through 2017 itself. "Basically, we've heard that there won't be a Days in 2018," says the source associated with the show, which recently celebrated its 51st anniversary on the network.
There is not much known about the new show to be hosted by Megyn Kelly but NBC News chairman Andrew Lack has offered her a variety of projects already. These include the chance to host her own daytime news show and program, act as an anchor on Sunday night shows or even take part in some political programming. "Nobody knows when Megyn starts," says the insider. "She is still under contract at Fox until July, then she has a six-month non-compete [clause]."
