A lot of fans must have tuned in for the latest development update of "Half-Life 3" during the Reddit AMA with Valve founder Gabe Newell that just happened January 17. The news came as both good and bad to players.

For the good news, via a Reddit AMA, Newell did confirm that his company Valve is in fact working on a game in the "Half-Life" or "Portal" universe. The bad news, it is not certainly "Half-Life 3".

The "Ask Me Anything" session on Reddit started off with a first query shot from fans, asking if Valve is developing a full-fledged single- player titles.Gabell answered with a plain "yes." However, that was only the starting point where stuff got more thrilling.

According to Euro Gamer, another redditor took a chance to ask the big boss of Valve if the company has a new project that involves Half-Life/Portal universe. And Newell responded positively but a short "yep" and nothing more. Fans would have wanted to know more details about this new game but to no avail.

However, the main man of Valve was kind enough to whet the appetite of fans and give them a peek at what is cooking at Valve's factory. This time, the question raised is whether there are titles designed for a full game experience for HTC Vive or not. Here, Newell did agree to the fact that virtual reality is now the name of the ball game among world's greatest game developers and a crucial element in making successful video games in this era.

"Yes. We think VR is pretty important as a tool for interesting games," he said. So, this only indicates a great possibility that the mystery game set in the Half-Life/Portal universe will get a VR support, assuming that Newell isn't talking of two separate games, one VR game and the other involving "Half-Life".

Apparently, the revelation from the Valve founder might have disappointed some gamers who want the release of "Half-Life 3". HTC Vive demo dubbed as "The Lab" is from "Portal" universe, despite that it isn't what fans have clamored for a follow-up of their favorite franchise.

Based on the thread, Newell was talking about a new project without any mention of "Half-Life 3". But Newell also said that his development team continues to use Source 2 as its universal engine for software development.

It is worthy to note, however, that the Valve boss did not utterly junk the idea of "Half-Life 3" from happening. So, who knows, this fans' wish could still come true in a not so distant future.
