Unlike the previous seasons, "Homeland" Season 6 is now based in New York and is challenged with the storyline they were not able to predict: Donald Trump's presidency. The show showcases a female US president.

Election Day crisis

"Homeland" executive producer and showrunner Alex Gansa disclosed that the team felt like they were in a crisis after the Election results were revealed. "After Election Day we all came into the story room and wondered if 'Homeland' had just become counterfactual to the point of irrelevance," he added.

The show has elected a woman leader of the United States, portrayed by Elizabeth Marvel. However, Gansa added that it was actually not the gender of the President that they were worried about. He noted that their concern was more on the "uncertainty" of having Trump as President and what will happen to the real world.

Episode 2 sneak peak

Titled "The Man in the Basement," Homeland Season 6 Episode 2 will air January 22 on Showtime. Fans will see how Reda (Patrick Sabongui) and Carrie (Claire Danes) will fight for their client. Meanwhile Dar (F. Murray Abraham) and Saul (Mandy Patinkin) have suspicions that Elizabeth Keane (Marvel) is keeping a secret. Another thing to look forward to is Quinn's (Rupert Friend) struggle as he starts a new lease in life.

How will the show end?

Asked about how he plans to eventually end the show, Gansa explained that he is really building something big for the end of the show. He added that they also hope to bring back Carrie into the CIA since fans have missed seeing her in action in the intelligence agency.

The showrunner also noted that fans can expect more characters for the next seasons of the show noting that they can still play with their storylines since the show still has a lot to look forward to. Are you excited for the next episode of "Homeland?"
