Video games have featured various topics such as mythology, love, sacrifice and friendship, but Mirball Games' "Lapsum" tackles the afterlife. The upcoming game is atmospheric, gory and minimalist.
"Lapsum" is a Latin word that is the accusative singular form of lāpsus, which means "gliding, sliding, slipping or falling." An apt title for a game where you control three characters as they fall through Hell.
Siliconera reports that in "Lapsum," you will have to guide sinners who "tumble down into the pits of Hell." The way is full of obstacles such as all sorts of traps, "spikes, sharp machinery" along with other things that will impede your progress.
Players can choose from three different sinners, who can then be taken through three sections of Hell and a whopping 60 stages. As your chosen sinner falls, you have the option of collecting items to get stronger to withstand the obstacles that will be more difficult to avoid and survive as you fall deeper.
In "Lapsum," while you fall through Hell you are actually getting closer to escaping it the further your descent is. However, you must first defeat the Pit Lord bosses who you will face in different ways and by carefully maneuvering your character as you fall.
"Lapsum's" Steam Greenlight page has yet to reveal the game's release date, but it does describe the sinners in detail. According to the page, are "game characters and [the] main population of the Hell. There are maniacs, psychopaths and other strange and even nice people (or perhaps not only people)."
Playable characters have their own unique health and energy stats. Energy helps characters achieve certain actions such as putting out fires or using special skills. All characters have the general ability of "time slowing" to pass through harder game levels.
"Lapsum" will be available for Windows PC, Mac and Linux and will be playable in English and Russian. Mirball Games' also has plans to release the title in German, French, Spanish, Korean, Japanese and Chinese.
