20 years after its first appearance on the network, the "Dragon Ball Super" English dub version finally premieres on the Cartoon Network. Here is a review from the pilot episode.

Dragon Ball Super is set at a very specific time, which is six months after the defeat of Kid Buu, towards the end of "Dragon Ball Z,'s" run. This is prior to the ten-year jump that occured at the very end of the series where Goku canceled his participation in the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament to train Uub. "Dragon Ball Super's" first episode appears as though it is playing with its audience. It does not reinstate Goku to viewers as a warrior or champion, but a radish farmer.

Goku even states that his farm work is a tough match for him, with troublesome roots that are as stubborn as Vegeta. With the world currently at peace, Goku strikingly tries to evade his responsibilities so he can train and exercise fighting for whatever threat that emerges next. He appears like a young child trying to get away from his homework; that is, the typical Goku that fans love and remember.

The first episode of "Dragon Ball Super" replayed old footage from "Dragon Ball Z," highlighting how far the animation has come since then. The series no re-animating those choice scenes gives viewers nostalgia. This episode, however, looks gorgeous and the series is still full of a number of lovely images and well-choreographed fights. Unluckily, the premiere does not get anywhere like this. Instead, it revolves around how to correctly animate crop fields and hot springs.

Moreover, we see Gohan honed by both Videl and Chi Chi's influence, with him more inclined to becoming a great scholar rather than using the powers that the Z sword unlocked. This is the pothole that Gohan falls into in this series, however, Goten and Trunks are enough mischief and warriors to make up for Gohan's total neglect of the battlefield, says DenofGeek. The series, like how the end of "Dragon Ball Z" was, is swift to offer ample of clumsy Mr. Satan with Majin Buu in tow. They linger to add to the lighthearted tone of this premiere episode that is more interested in comedy than its action-packed plot.
