The "Jurassic Park" franchise was brought back to life by Colin Trevorrow in his 2015 film, "Jurassic World." It is now up to J.A. Bayona to carry that blockbuster momentum in "Jurassic World 2."
There have only been very little information about this upcoming dinosaur-centric film. According to Cinema Blend, this is because Bayona, along with the rest of the "Jurassic World 2" team, was hard at work at hashing out the story. "We are writing the second chapter," Bayona told Collider. "The challenge is always to find the balance between what the audience is expecting, and to surprise them."
The franchise first started with the original "Jurassic Park" film by Steven Spielberg in 1993. Since then, film makers had a hard time following it with a proper sequel. "The Lost World" and "Jurassic Park III" were reportedly not as impressive as they should have been. Bayona, however, wants to treat "Jurassic World 2" as "Steven Spielberg's baby."
"I am there to take care of his baby as much as possible," he said, according to Toronto Sun. "For me, it is very exciting to be making this film because I grew up with his films. I have always bee a huge fan."
He also added that the tone of the film will be picking up after both the "Jurassic World" and the "Jurassic Park" franchise. This only means that his film will either be "Jurassic World 2" or "Jurassic Park 5."
"What we are doing is a sequel to 'Jurassic World,'" Bayona added. "But it is definitely the fifth chapter of a longer saga. I think the story is looking for a connection between 'Jurassic World' and 'Jurassic Park' - more than what 'Jurassic World' did."
Trevorrow's take on the film was a clear nod toward the original, as he incorporated some of the film's iconic locations. Still there is a multitude of avenues for Bayona to actually tie the backstory to the original.
