"Mr. Robot" Season 3 remains to be one of the shows that still do not have a confirmed release date to date. Multiple news outlets, however, have reported that the show will be back to small screens sometime in 2017.
Sam Esmail's absence at last year's Comic-Con added fire to theories that he was hard at work in the editing room. According to previous reports, "Mr. Robot" Season 3 will feature the worsening of Elliot's mental disorder. It remains unclear how the series will proceed with regard to that arc, but Esmail did confirm that they will not change anything.
"It is about paring things down and focusing them a little more," he told Deadline. "It is not about changing the story. We plot out the whole season in an intricate way. To change one thing would have a domino effect."
Although there will be no drastic changes to the show's story, Esmail confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that he will move the focus a bit toward Angela's involvement and "her complicity in all of this."
"There is an elasticity to her motivations," he said. "You think she is going one way and then you realize she is actually going another. Now, she is part of this group we never would have expected." Whether this shift is part of her alliance with or against Elliot remains unclear. "That is something we are going to play with in an interesting way next season," Esmail added.
In addition to Angela, played by Portia Doubleday, "Mr. Robot" Season 3 will also reportedly focus on the relationship between Elliot and Tyrell. Showrunners will be delving further into the possibility that these two opposing characters could actually have a connection.
According to Esmail's statements, he wants to go deeper into the possibility that "these two have the same flaws and are two sides of the same coin." There could be a chance that Elliot and Tyrell connect and their very few similarities. "Mr. Robot" Season 3 will go deeper into "what that relationship and that conflict will look like going forward."
