Dell has just unveiled its new UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD 8K computer monitor. According to multiple news outlets, this is the world's first monitor to have a 32-inch 8K screen.

As reported by IGN, it has the capability to display more than a billion colors with 33.2 million pixels of resolution that comes with 280 ppi pixel density. These specs puts Dell's 8K display ahead of the new 5K Retina display that Apple unveiled for its iMac.

Clearly, today's screen-makers have moved on from 4K to 8K resolution, all because of a much-developed HDMI specification, as pointed out by another report. With the all-new version 2.1 of the said spec, 8K resolution can now be supported at 60Hz, in addition to 4K resolution at 120Hz. When it comes to UHD resolutions, 8K is currently at the top of the competition, especially with 7680x4320 pixels -- compared to a normal screen's 1920x1080.

This new HDMI spec also comes with Dynamic HDR, as well as a new cable that will support uncompressed HDR 8K media transfer at 48Gbps. Moreover, this new cable is also backwards-compatible with HDMI specs that were released in the previous years. This way, the new cable will still work for consumers who are using an old HDMI device.

However, this 8K monitor from Dell will not come cheap. It is expected to sell at around $5,000 when it is officially released to the public in Q2 2017. At this cost, Dell has marketed the screen display for "commercial fields where in-depth image zooming is critical," such as oil and gas discovery, high-end photography, and medical applications.

The 8K screen technology is still new, but Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2" was reportedly filmed using a RED 8K professional digital camera. This only means to show that more of today's huge media projects will be venturing into the 8K technology.
