Jane Foster, portrayed by Natalie Portman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), is noticeably absent in the recent MCU entries. However, Portman has shared that she is willing to reprise her character in upcoming Marvel movies.

According to Uproxx, Portman told Deadline that while her character Jane will once again be absent in the upcoming "Thor: Ragnarok," she still hasn't closed the door on reprising the role of the feisty astrophysicist.

In "The Avengers," her absence was explained away as being under S.H.I.E.L.D. (a law-enforcement and counter-terrorism agency) protection against Loki, Thor's adoptive brother. In "Avengers: Age of Ultron," Jane Foster was only mentioned in passing. Meanwhile, in "Captain America: Civil War," both Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Jane were absent.

The actress shared that despite the light-hearted tone of the MCU, acting in them is an exercise in improving her skills. She shares, "You don't have to imagine anything. You are just in the emotional state of your character. When you are doing those blue screen movies, you have to imagine everything outside and within. You have to create the whole world. It is like being a kid again."

Her statement leads to questions about her possible return to the MCU. While she didn't confirm anything, Portman teased, "Yeah, well, hopefully, one day I figure it out!"

Natalie Portman's recent movie "Jackie" has earned praise from viewers and critics alike. She is also in the running for Best Actress at the Golden Globes.

In a separate article, Uproxx reported that Mark Ruffalo talked to Entertainment Tonight about "Thor: Ragnarok's" cast and the film's plot. The actor commented that the upcoming sequel has the feel of "an intergalactic buddy road movie" featuring his character Bruce Banner/ The Hulk and Thor. A possible explanation for Jane's absence in the upcoming "Thor"-centric sequel is the fact that it will take mostly in space, posing a possible danger to the mortal woman.
