"Marvel Contest of Champions" has become one of the most popular fighting apps since its 2014 release. With the company Kabam basically doing as promised, it is now confirmed that Kabam sold their Vancouver studio to another hard-hitter.
The critically coveted Kabam studio in Vancouver is the one responsible for "Marvel Contest of Champions," which dons a massive accolade in terms of revenue and downloads. As for the aforementioned deal, it is said that there may be more coming after the existing -- at least, once the talks reach a conclusion.
According to reports from Bleeding Cool, the Vancouver studio was sold to mobile games publisher Netmarble Games from South Korea. Although the details of the deal are not specified, it was said that Netmarble was not the only one to propose-with another Canadian studio raising $800 million to bid. On a more interesting note, Kabam is expected -- if not already confirmed -- to put their other studios up for sale if the current one is successful. These are located in Los Angeles, Beijing and San Francisco.
Netmarble established quite a name being the largest shareholder in Jam City, which is an LA-based game company that also absorbed another studio, Tiny Co. The said studio is responsible for "Family Guy: The Quest for Stuff" and "Marvel: Avengers Academy." Overall, Netmarble is expected to divulge more information later in the year with regard to its acquisition of Kabam.
"Marvel Contest of Champions" has put Kabam on the good end of downloaders, as it was tallied to have 90 million installs and garnered a whopping $450 million after its launch. It has since come up with multiple updates that included events to unlock various heroes, as well as allow players to participate in Alliances all over the globe.
As for the recent works of Kabam, it is said that the Los Angeles studio is busy with a game based on "Avatar" by James Cameron. No updates on this have appeared so far.
