When fans last left the fiery-haired protagonist of "Shadowhunters", Clary Fray (played by Katherine McNamara) was reunited with her mother Jocelyn (Lena Headey), at the cost of losing her newfound brother Jace Wayland (Dominic Sherwood) to Valentine Morgenstern (Alan Van Sprang).

It's confusing but fans of "Shadowhunters" Season 1 were left with that cliffhanger of an ending and a lot of speculation thereafter. Now, the question on everyone's minds for Season 2 among other things is, what happens to Jace?

The official trailer for "Shadowhunters" Season 2 was released on Oct. 9, 2016. It featured most of the characters fans have grown to love in Season 1, with some getting visual revamps.

For instance, Simon Lewis (played by Alberto Rosende) returns with an upgraded set of vampire fighting moves or so, TV Line reports. According to the outlet, the series' executive producer Matt Hastings revealed that they've improved the physical aspect of Simon's character, including even the "way he moves around," as Hastings put it.

The portal system in "Shadowhunters" also went through some changes visual design, so it looks more liquid than it originally did in season one. Showrunner Darren Swimmer apparently told TV Line that they took creative license on this, wanting it to look more like a whirlpool that the "Shadowhunters" characters could jump through.

International Business Times also reports that Season 2 will introduce a new major character to the cast, a mysterious oddity by the name of Sebastian. He will evidently be as powerful as the show's antagonist, Valentine Morgenstern.

Fans who are already familiar with his history know Sebastian was raised in hell. Hastings, on the other hand, describes him as a tortured soul whose emergence in the world of shadowhunters will play a major importance. Whether his role is friend or foe remains to be seen.

"Shadowhunters" Season 2 premiered on Monday, January 2 at 8 p.m. EST on Freeform.
