Android Authority has been keeping a monthly poll of best Android smartphones of the year 2016 which started in April. Here we take a look at top honors of every month and see which smartphone is the most popular to the Android users.
April 2016: 1st place - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge takes the top spot for the first month of the poll with with 4,258 votes from users, with Nexus 6P coming in at a close second with 3,093 votes.
May 2016: 1st place - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
The Galaxy S7 Edge is a fan favorite for the second month in a row with 4,433 votes. Once again, the Nexus 6P is second place with 2,463 votes.
June 2016: 1st place - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
For the third month in a row, the Galaxy S7 Edge takes top spot with 5,889 votes.
July 2016: 1st place - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
With 4,550 votes from users, the Galaxy S7 Edge remains at the top. The Nexus 6P is at second place with 2,455 votes.
August 2016: 1st place - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
The trend continues with the Galaxy S7 Edge leading the poll with 4,980 votes.
September 2016: 1st place - Samsung Galaxy Note 7
The Galaxy Note 7 has taken first place with 4,180 votes.
October 2016: 1st place - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
The Galaxy S7 Edge regained the top spot with 4,964 votes, while the Note 7 drops to second place with 4,165 votes.
November 2016: 1st place - Google Pixel XL
The newest entry on the polls takes first place at 4,105 while its little brother, the Google Pixel, is second place with 2,505 votes.
December 2016: 1st place - Google Pixel XL
The Google Pixel XL remains at the tops spot with 4,177 votes, while the Galaxy S7 Edge is second with 2,093 votes.
Clearly the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is a popular one throughout the year, while the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 briefly took the top spot for the month of September, until it started exploding and units had to be recalled to fix the issue.
Then the Google Pixel XL was launched in October 2016 and it has been on the top spot since November 2016. The most impressive entry was the Nexus 6P which remained on the top three for the majority of the year, even though it was released since 2015.
