Hulu made a licensing deal with Disney which gives them exclusive rights to stream over 50 Disney movies in the coming months according to a report by Tech Crunch.
Subscribers to Hulu will now have access to Disney movies that includes "The Nightmare Before Christmas," "Mulan," "Hercules," "Pocahontas," "Air Bud" and "Sister Act." Other movie titles will also be available for streaming like "The Princess and The Frog," "Muppet Treasure Island," The Emperor's New Groove," "Tarzan," "Lilo & Stich," "The Mighty Ducks," "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion," "Pearl Harbor," "Gone In 60 Seconds," "Step Up" and "Con Air."
Disney is now reportedly splitting their movies collection to multiple streaming services including Netflix, which allows them to stream movies from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Marvel, Lucas Film and Pixar. Additionally, Disney has its own streaming service in Europe called DisneyLife that offers movies, TV, music among others.
Hulu will also offer other content from Disney that includes Disney Channel Original Movies and other programs from Disney's TV networks because of a deal with Disney-ABC Television Group.
According to Hulu, Craig Erwich, SVP Head of Content, stated that a priority for them is offering quality kids and family programs to subscribers. Hulu and other streaming services usually focus on their kids' section because it is a key selling point for subscribers. Netflix and Amazon invest heavily in their own kid's programming while HBO announced that they will bring "Sesame Street" and other shows to their service.
Lastly, the streaming service will feature user profiles, much like with Netflix, wherein kids will be allowed their own login separated from parents, with personalized recommendations, watch list and viewing history.
