The first global mission for the "Pokemon Sun and Moon" was a total failure because of the goal. Catching 100 million Pokemon in the game seemed impossible, even players found the goal unrealistic. The challenge was impossible to do because of the number of Pokemon players were required to catch. To reiterate that, only "catching" the Pokemon is really annoying. Players need to scour every grass and stock supplies on Poke balls. In addition, catch rates vary from each Pokemon and player need to weaken it first for a guaranteed catch. Since the first mission greatly failed, a second global mission was released for players around the world.

The second global mission from Pokemon Global Link requires to capture and defeat as many Pokemon as possible only after using the Island scan feature. Players have to scan QR codes, which are provided in Pokemon Global Link website together with their announcement of the mission. QR codes must be scanned to gain points. Once these reach to 100 points, players can use the Island scan to locate the rare Pokemon/s, which is/are not usually in Alola region.

The Pokemon Company reportedly released 5 QR codes to be scanned right away to aid players without Island scan yet. The QR codes can be found in this Polygon report. Of course, since this is a global mission, players around the world should accumulate a total of 1 million Pokemon using the Island scan.

Register the Game Sync ID if possible for more Festival coins

The rewards offered when at the end of the mission are Festival Coins, which can be used to buy items in the Festival Plaza, "Pokemon Sun and Moon's" online multiplayer area. Notably, players who participate and complete the goal will be rewarded 2017 Festival coins, which is correlating to the New Year event. Other participants will get 217 coins instead. Most importantly, for players who register their Game Sync ID will earn double the rewards.

Note that players can only use the Island scan feature only once per day, so they should make the most of it. This second mission compensates from what happened last time and deadline is on January 9, 2017.
