"Supergir"l lead star Melissa Benoist filled for divorce from her husband and former "Glee" co-star, Blake Jenner. The two were engaged July 2013 and secretly married last March 2015 after Melissa Benoist finished filming for "Supergirl" season 1.

TMZ reported that they were able to obtain court documents from Melissa Benoist herself citing that the reason for the divorce is their "irreconcilable differences". Both of the party from the split does not want to give any spousal support and they don't have any children together.

The 28-year old actress also requested to change back her legal name to Melissa Benoist disregarding the Jenner surname. The former couple was last seen together at the Toronto International Film Festival last September.

Melissa Benoist and Blake Jenner first met and introduced in the hit musical series by Ryan Murphy, "Glee" season 4 where Melissa Benoist plays Mary Rose and the love interest of Ryder Lynn who is played by her former husband, Blake Jenner. The two were then written out of series on its series finale which last aired March 20 last year.

Blake Jenner was the winner of the reality competition series The "Glee Project" in Oxygen which bagged him the role of Ryder Lynn for "Glee". In 2014, Benoist was then casted in the movie with Miles Teller called 'Whiplash" and won several awards in the Sundance Film Festival.

In October 2014, Melissa Benoist then took up the mantle of the DC Comic's character Kara-Zor-El wearing the cape and skirt of "Supergirl" on CBS. Blake Jenner guess starred in "Supergirl" Season 1 for two episodes, playing Adam Foster the short lived love interest of Kara Danvers and secret son of Cat Grant.

"Supergirl" then expanded its horizons and did better when they moved to the CW Network for season two where she gets to interact with the rest of "The Flash" and "Arrow" universe. The divorce of Melissa Benoist and Blake Jenner came as a surprise as the second half of "Supergirl" season 2 returns in January 2017.
