After all Nexus devices received Android 7.1.1, the last Nexus device, Nexus 6 will now get an update this coming January. Users have long demanded for the update, seeing as previous models have already received it earlier.
The device were released two years ago, quite far from these new technologies existing today. But this Motorola-made Android device will share features with the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Pixel series.
In 9To5 Google report, it says Google found a bug on the last minute of update development specifically for the device. This bug caused the delay of the Android 7.1.1 update rollout. They also said that Google promised to fix the issue until next month.
As the Android Central report said, Google also promised to support devices for up to two years. Nexus 6 is already beyond that period since it was released two years ago and nearly expired.
This extension could be due to the delayed Android 7.0 update on the Nexus 6. To think this device is not so high-end device compared to others, but getting an update of the latest Android 7.1.1 is a good news for those still using this device.
Some Nexus devices are reportedly not receiving the security update despite its announcement a month ago. So if you have a Nexus 6 device, you may still receive your update on February.
The Android 7.1.1 Nougat update may be the last major update for the device since it was too old for this current technology. Though, this handset is still one of the few smartphones that currently active with a Nougat system, making an advantage to some more high-tech devices.
Google is now doing their best to fix the bug and release the Android 7.1.1 OTA for Nexus 6 at their promised time. For those users of this device waiting for the updates, it is just only a week before you experience the new features of the new Android system.
