"Final Fantasy XV" director Hajime Tabata game a passing mark of 70% achievement for the latest iteration when it comes to keeping track with the original aim. Tabata said that "Final Fantasy XV" is the first for the whole franchise to go open world and there was fear at first that players want them to stick into traditional Fantasy setup of RPG gaming.
If sales are going to be the basis for rounding up all achievements for Square Enix and Tabata, then his 70 percent assessment is accurate. There are 5 million units sold worldwide and local Japan sales ballooned to 815,000 on the opening week. Remember that it is hard to keep track of digital sales so these aren't included in these figures, Dual Shockers said.
Tabata-san said in an ITmedia Time interview that sales figures alone stands as testament that everything expected was achieved - at least a large chunk of expectations. He even said that Japan sales is interesting because there is a bit of hiatus in gaming industry.
Majority of "Final Fantasy XV" players are overseas, where they are more adept with the concept of open world gameplay. On the contrary, Japan was used to traditional "Final Fantasy" gameplay and turn-based RPG. In fact, there are few games who experimented with open world in Japan but sadly failed.
Tabata assessed that what happened with the game is implosive development where gamers from around the world who gave nice reviews managed to convince local market in Japan. "Final Fantasy XV' decided to release simultaneously worldwide and it worked!
When a lot of player decided to stream the game through YouTube, the game made another leap towards local promotion. Gamers enjoyed the open world set-up and others are even killing the time by simply side-questing and exploring. Again, "Final Fantasy XV" threaded personal preference and style of its players.
