Developer Blizzard is cooking something big for "Overwatch" at the start of new year, much bigger than two new characters, maps and modes added in 2016. It was indeed a busy year for Blizzard since unleashing the game in May, there is no slowing down this time around.

"Overwatch" game director Jeff Kaplan confirmed that there will be new heroes coming in for 2017. Kaplan also said that the game is going to receive updates that is even bigger that the launched version. He explained that the game is continually going through assessment and when they are not happy, then they go back to the drawing board for new contents.

To stress what Kaplan is trying to say, character Genji is the best example. The high-leaping stealthy ninja Genji was developed for about a year and a half before introduction to "Overwatch." What made the development phase took long is the constant changes and experimentation Blizzard did before they were finally satisfied. Genji storyline can be traced in BlizzardWatch.

Now here is an "Overwatch" gem, Kaplan teased a new hero that made it through the art department. Meaning, this character is almost finished and the only remaining move is to breathe life into it. This addendum is still on the shadow area and Kaplan refused to divulge additional information on what powers or skills it possesses.

Now about "Overwatch" sporting a new map called Oasis; this one is coming early next year. Kaplan said that they are right on schedule for Oasis but the real reason to go excited are other "newer" maps that will be released. Not just one but several other maps are on different planning tables right now, PC Gamer reported.

Here is another thing to hope for: the game is being bred to become a legit full-blown competition game that is worthy of eSports. Having planned so, the game will tweak a "viewer map" specially tailored for spectators. It is still unclear how this system is going to work though.
