Rumored integration of Microsoft's flagship browser, Internet Explorer, has been long requested and long rumored. The company also unveiled the SmartGlass technology, integrating the company's devices.

Microsoft unveiled SmartGlass, its technology for integration all of its device. For example when watching a TV show such as Game of Thrones, relevant information about the brains behind the content will be shown. Devices also track progress of how much of the show is watched live, with devices working together to "immerse you in entertainment," according to Microsoft.

The technology also showed the service being used to manage plays in an NFL game, view Halo Waypoint data - which provided information about elements of the universe - along with being able to launch a multiplayer match and view the players in the game. Those functions work across any device.

On Internet Explorer for Xbox, saying "Xbox, Web Hub" takes the users to the favorite Web sites. There's the ability to view HD videos, seemingly quickly and with minimal loading, and the page can be controlled with a tablet or phone via the SmartGlass app rather than a controller. The browser brings global and local content to the Xbox.

SmartGlass was also revealed to work with devices "you already own," though it was not confirmed if the device were Windows 8- and Windows Phone-only.

Microsoft also announced Xbox games will be brought to Windows 8 tablet and PCs, mirroring the Xbox Live integration on Windows Phone, allowing interaction with friends and the ability to earn achievements. SmartGlass will also be available on Windows 8.

The question is whether Internet Explorer for Xbox works with a controller, and/or with Kinect. Sony's browser works with a controller but, as Microsoft said, isn't optimally designed for working with a browser. Movement is precise, but slow, and it seems using a hand would be the only way to rival the speed and movement of a mouse.

Both SmartGlass and Internet Explorer for Xbox launch this fall. Stay tuned for more E3 2012 coverage at the week progresses.
