It was a glitch in the charging case and not from the W1 chips that caused delay in AirPods delivery. The highly anticipated device was postponed for three months after Apple announced its wireless earpods architecture in September, ditching away the classic headphone jack from the iPhone 7 series.

In an AirPods teardown, iFixit traced down the problem on the charging case that comes with the earphones. This is after taking a few x-ray shots on the charging case and discovering unwelcome issues, including empty spaces called as voiding.

Also dubbed as a hot mess, it also took swipe on the loss of tiny components inside the AirPods as compared to the sturdy and tightly packed Apple Watch. Excess glue was also noticed inside the device's base section, which blocks the AirPods' speaker.

Prior to its December 19 release, some reports surfaced that the W1 chips embedded in each of the two earpieces failed. The W1 chips are tasked to synchronize and receive Bluetooth signals for a seamless audio experience and uninterrupted wireless connection.

Earlier, The Wall Street Journal has reported that Apple may have miscalculated the release of their AirPods without thoroughly studying the risk of its ambitious wireless earpods breakthrough. With earpieces from other brands using only one signal receiver for a pair, Apple designed the AirPods with each piece receiving an independent signal. However, iFixit debunked this report today.

Meanwhile, the AirPods' release was just in time for Christmas, which has been a welcome development for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus owners. Two days after its release, customers continue to flock at Apple Stores worldwide to grab a pair or two of the most sought-after device.
