Apple has always envisioned that wireless is the future. Thus, they have removed the headphone jack from its latest production of iPhones.
They have announced four pairs of wireless headphones, but the most intriguing pair was the wireless version of Apple's EarPods --- now known as AirPods. After getting delayed for a few months, it's finally available for purchase at $159.
The only downside, it's easy to lose. Even though Apple designed it as a one-size-fits-all, which is somehow an open-air design for EarPods, some users are having a hard time making their AirPods stay in their ears for long periods of time. There are also slight differences between the EarPods and the AirPods' shapes. EarPods are a little more round, while AirPods are slightly more countered --- making them more comfortable; thus, AirPods should fit the users' ears more than Earpods, as what Apple says. It doesn't fall off immediately as well. Users just have to make sure to twist it well for a snug fit, though it needs to be readjusted sometimes as they inevitably slide out.
The AirPods are also commendable for its great sound, which is deemed better than the EarPods. Other than that, it's commendable for its great pairing and providing a sturdy connection. Its W1 chip makes the initial pairing process as easy as a pie; AirPods connects to the device every time users take them out of the case, as well as always accessible and visible in the iOS Control Center. Moreover, users can use them across multiple devices such as iPhones, Apple Watches, or iPads.
After beginning the initial connection in most earphone pairs, the first earbud transmits the signal to the other one. However, playback on the first earbud doesn't start until the sync is attained. Users tend to deal with latency of about 30-50 milliseconds then, which is fine for music and otherwise for videos and games. Apple also made a gradual difference: each AirPod is actually receiving its own Bluetooth channel independently and simultaneously --- thanks to the W1 chip handling the syncing, which results to very low latency and very reliable connection. AirPods isn't that great for Android, though; but compared to other wireless earpods, it's one of the best-performing pairs of wireless earbuds ever tested, according to THE VERGE.
On a brighter note, one of the best parts about the AirPods is its case, in which the earbuds are magnetically locked and held in place. It's also small, which can be conveniently put in almost any kind of pocket. The ability to constantly charge the AirPods is reassuring, as well as its incredible battery life that stays up to five hours.
Despite its great battery life, good sound, and wireless performance, some users would still like to have it improved --- more ways to interact with the AirPods such as quick access to volume, play or pause, and track skipping like what other earbuds can do. As of now, users can only do these by either asking for Siri to do it or manually do it.
