Nintendo teased the world with a Mario game app last September and this December, they have delivered. Let's welcome to the world of mobile app gaming -- Super Mario Run, a one-hand-played running and jumping Mario challenging game.

Apptopia reports Super Mario Run has broken Pokémon Go's record at the App Store with 2.85 million downloads on its first day of release (Pokémon Go only had 900,000 downloads) and was available to 150 countries (Pokémon Go was only with three countries). For now, Super Mario Run is available on iOS only but will soon be available on Android in 2017. It's free-to-play with three levels and a one-time in-app purchase of $9.99 will unlock the rest of the levels, exclusive of ads.

Nintendo plans to complete the five announced smart device game apps by the end of first quarter of 2017. It has already released a social network game app, Miitomo, last March this year and two more, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem, are set to be released by the end of March next year. The fifth game has not been announced yet but speculations surround Zelda.

DeNA, mobile, and services giant, is helping Nintendo create five new and individually-unique mobile games to trigger five equally unique IPs for each game app. "That's why we decided to work together to create five games, hitting on different genre-utilizing IPs", DeNA CEO Shintaro Asako revealed.

Working with DeNA is a big challenge for Nintendo because of the issue of "free games" since DeNA profits from this system. Nintendo contends fully-packed game and invaluable experience with having a set price on its game apps. The release of game apps for smart devices is Nintendo's strategy to "synergize with dedicated video game system business" and create "smart device business profitably on its own", President Tatsumi Kimishima of Nintendo said.
