The rumors about Apple building its own mapping solution spread like a wildfire after Apple quietly ignored Google Maps in its iPhoto app for iOS that the company released along with the debut of new iPad. And now the images of Apple's in-house Maps app have surface online, confirming option for 3D Maps mode.

Folks at Boy Genius Report posted a collection of images claiming to be associated with new maps app that will be featured in upcoming installment of Apple's mobile operating system dubbed iOS 6, which is expected at the Worldwide Developer Conference this month.

Although the five pictures that BGR posted are blurry, yet they are believed to be real as the tech site has a strong record in the past regarding early leaks and predictions.

Rumors about 3D Maps app have been making waves across the blogosphere for past few months. Not a long time ago, 9to5Mac reported that Apple is about to ditch Google Maps in its next generation mobile operating system as it has developed its own mapping solution.

To make the dream come true, Apple picked up various mapping service providers with C3 Technologies being the most prioritized of them. C3 Technology firm was reportedly working on 3D Maps when Apple acquired it in late 2011. Another 3D maps specialist Poly9 was acquired in 2010, while Placebag was picked back in 2009.

Apple will reportedly simply label the new app as "Maps". The tech giant is also expected to feature a Google Street Maps alternative in its new Maps app. Other than its own mapping solution, the company is also bringing a major update to Siri.

"We have a lot of people working on (Siri). You'll be really pleased with the things you'll see over the coming months. The breadth that you're talking about - we've got some cool ideas about what Siri can do. We have a lot going on this," Apple CEO Tim Cook said in an interview at D10 on Tuesday, hinting that the popular virtual assistant Siri is also getting updated in the upcoming version of iOS.

Apple is expected to unveil iOS 6 at Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) which kicks off June 11 in San Francisco.
