With the recently released trailer for "The Last of Us 2," speculations went instantly wild with Joel being dead, while Ellie is left alone, angry and seeking for vengeance against "every single one of them." However, it may be too early to make assumptions about who's dead and who's not.

Below is the official trailer, which was posted by official PlayStation YouTube page a few days ago.

While there isn't too much going on with the Naughty Dog's teaser for the much awaited sequel, fans went wild about the announcement itself. The rumor mill followed afterwards and words have it that Ellie is going to take the spotlight this time, with Joel not just on the back seat, but as a dead person.

This could be the easy way out for Naughty Dog. Fans could even call it lazy, but it has always been a cliché when those characters are driven by revenge due to losing someone they cared about. These deceased individuals appearing as a hallucination in front of them is a dead giveaway.

However, Paul Tassi of Forbes and his interpretation of the plot twist makes things even more interesting than just the usual onset of these type of approaches.

Everything is all set in this type of story arc. Ellie is angry enough to take out the entire Fireflies or whichever group of people who might be responsible for Joel's death. However, being simply angry might not cut it as it is way too stereotype and not something we might expect from Naughty Dog.

One interesting take to this is by actually not revealing or confirming if Joel is dead or alive. This is contrary to finding out that the Joel that the player will be tagging along with, provided that we're in control of Ellie, is dead in the early part of the game.

This could be something that they could actually reveal on the later part of the game, which adds an even more intense emotion to the revenge that Ellie will bring to the group responsible for it. The illusion of Joel, being alive and guiding Ellie despite being an illusion caused by the rejection of the fact that he's dead is something Naughty Dog can deliver well.

Alas, all these speculations may still be too early to be something that we should hold on into, but the fact that the sequel "The Last of Us 2" is happening is more than enough of an assurance for another emotional roller coaster ride.
