The release of iOS 10.2 last Monday brought many changes to Apple's HomeKit platform. Users now have the ability to receive instant alerts for a variety of home devices.
The new iOS 10.2 update has also added support for several HomeKit accessories. Supported devices include household motion sensors and detectors, as well as being able to receive alerts when the smoke detector detects a pending fire or when there's a water leak.
iOS 10.2 Update: Better Homekit Alerts From New iOS 10.2
According to AppleInsider, Apple users can access notifications through the Home app. Homeowners can also enable alerts by selecting the HomeKit accessory in the app itself. Just tap the details button on the options menu and scroll down to status and notifications. From there, Apple users can choose whether to enable or disable the sending of alerts that a specific HomeKit triggers. This also allows users to receive alert notifications even if they are away in real-time. However, a user has to download the latest iOS 10.2 update first.
Back in October, Apple announced that they're expecting 100 HomeKit-compatible devices by year's end. However, developers who have entered the venture is on a slow start --- with Apple requiring them proprietary home chips to secure smart home devices as well.
iOS 10.2 Update: Other Features Included In The Update
Aside from receiving notifications from HomeKit devices, the new iOS 10.2 update features improvements on the iOS interface. As reported on CNET, the update includes 72 new emojis and a new preserve setting for iOS cameras. The iOS 10.2 update also includes new love and celebration screen filters for messages. It introduced a brand-new TV app and updated Photos, News, and Music applications as well.
