A few months ago, Google released a dedicated third-party mobile keyboard app called the "Gboard". But instead of releasing it for their proprietary mobile operating system, the company made it available first for their biggest competitor: Apple.
After its iOS release, a lot of Android fans wondered when the company would release the full-featured keyboard app for their proprietary mobile operating system, the Google Android --- seeing that the stock keyboard app was, in itself, long overdue for an update. Now, Google has finally launched the "Gboard" keyboard app for Android --- bringing with it all features found on the iOS version, along with other functionalities.
One of the main features of the keyboard app is its ability to seamlessly type in multiple languages with its true multi-language support. The keyboard also has three different language settings, which can all be used simultaneously. This feature will be a welcomed one for users who routinely type in more than one language to communicate. Before the update, users had to resort to other third-party apps like SwiftKey in order to use multiple languages simultaneously.
For Android, the new "Gboard" app will be totally replacing the stock Google keyboard app --- starting with version 6.0 and up. The new stock keyboard update is slowly rolling out through the PlayStore now, which is expected to have different versions available for different handsets and custom UIs in the coming weeks.
Aside from the multi-language support, the new keyboard also has a myriad of new options --- including a dedicated number row, a redesigned emoji interface, a new GIF button, and a dedicated G button to access Google Search right from the keyboard. All new buttons and areas are fully customizable under the app's settings menu and can be disabled or enabled depending on the user's preference.
The overall design of the standard Google keyboard has also been slightly altered with a few aesthetic changes here and there.
